If you are thinking or planning your next trip to Manali, I’ll give you an overview of every season so that you can plan your visit accordingly.But before that let me tell you, Manali looks beautiful in each season but since some of you will be traveling to Manali for the first time, there are a few things to keep in mind and specific experiences to expect in each season to make the most of your trip.

 spring   (March-April)

   Temperature  (10°C to 20°C)

Spring season is perfect for people who enjoy  balance of pleasant weather, fewer crowds and natural beauty. Most people visit Manali during this time (March-April) because of its pleasant weather as the snow melts away revealing lush green valley. During spring you will see fewer tourists compared to summer or winter also, you get to see snow-capped peaks creating pleasant trekking weather. Temperature can range somewhere between 10°C to 20°C and its perfect weather for outdoor activities.

During spring apple and plum trees bloom, covering the valley in vibrant colors of pink and white, which makes it perfect for photography and long nature walks.

It’s an ideal season for couples looking for romantic escape, also you can plan a day trip around Manali to experience more of this season.

Tip – While planning your trip, check temperature in advance and plan your itinerary accordingly. Pack woolen clothes and carry a lightweight jacket as temperature drops during the night and morning.

summer (May – June)

Temperature   (15°c to 25°c)

summer is the peak season for Manali, as most people escape to the mountains for cooler weather. You’ll find variety of visitors including backpackers, families and international travelers exploring the valley.

Temperature can range somewhere between 15°C to 25°C making it an ideal time for outdoor activities like trekking, exploring hidden gems nearby. And you can enjoy thrilling activities like camping, paragliding and river rafting.

Summer is perfect time to plan a road trip to Leh, Lahaul or Spiti as Manali serves as a center point for these destinations.

In short, if you are visiting Manali in summer, you have lots of options However, it’s wise to book your hotels or resorts in advance as prices tend to rise during this busy season.

Tip — plan and book your hotel, resort in advance and bring sunglasses, sunscreen as it gets really hot and humid during the day.

 

Monsoon (July – September)

   Temperature   (10°c to 15°c)

Monsoon is considered off season Very few people travel here because of unpredictable weather. Temperature ranges between 10°c to 15°c. Roads often get damaged and landslides can happen anytime. That’s why most tourists skip monsoon season (July-September) and visit during the summer, but if your on a budget trip then it is a good option for you as you can find an affordable stay and enjoy different sides of Manali.

After heavy rain it feels as if nature itself has been refreshed. Whether you’re sitting in a cafe or homestay you cannot miss the views outside as the sky dances with shifting clouds and fog making it more magical, i love monsoon there’s something deeply calming watching nature reset.One of my favorite things to do during this season is to enjoy view with a cup of Chai and go on long walks.

Monsoon brings new vegetation including various species of wild mushrooms and herbs and offers a unique experience. And then there’s food try local authentic Siddu, momo or thukpa next time you visit.

Tip  Always check weather updates and road conditions before traveling, Carry rain jacket or poncho and pack light quick drying clothes. And, if your planning a monsoon trek make sure you have a local guide, all the equipment, and solid trekking shoes.

 

Autumn (late september – November)

 Temperature   (10°C to 15°C)

 

In Autumn, valley looks breathtaking, the entire landscape transforms as the trees shift from green to stunning shades of yellow, orange and red. From late September to November you can enjoy a laid back vibe here, as not many tourists visit during autumn. There are many things you can expect in this season starting with the most famous Kullu Dussehra, which is celebrated in the month of October though its not fixed. The entire valley celebrates Dussehra.

Gods and goddesses from the valley gather together to pay honor to Lord Raghunath. The festival has deep spiritual significance and showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Kullu Valley. Folk music, traditional dance and a vibrant market fair attracts thousands of visitors each year. It’s once in a lifetime experience. 

Apart from this, you can plan a trip to sisu to enjoy the beautiful landscape and waterfall which looks more beautiful during autumn You can also explore Lahauli dishes and nearby villages.

Tip – While planning your trip, check temperature in advance and plan your itinerary accordingly. Bring warm clothing as temperatures drop to 5ºC during night.

 

Winter (December – February)

Temperature   (0°C to 10°C)

 

Manali in winters is a treat for the eyes; it’s a winter wonderland for Indians.There are so many things you can experience during winter  starting with winter activities like skiing and snowboarding. I will recommend that, you skip Solang Valley this winter as it gets too crowded and visit Sethan instead. You can find some beautiful igloos in Sethan, where you can experience a unique stay. It’s perfect for snowboarding or skiing near Manali.

Furthermore, you can drive down to Manali Leh Highway to see Deepak Tal which will be a stunning frozen lake during that time. Along with Deepak tal, you will see a snow-covered landscape that truly feels like a piece of heaven on earth. 

Tip –  Always check road and weather conditions before coming as some routes may be closed or dangerous during heavy snowfall. Pack woolen clothes and quality thermal layers as temperature could drop up to -5°C during night. If you’re planning  to go further into Lahaul make sure to opt for 4×4 SUV and carry snow chains to ensure a safe journey in case of heavy snowfall.
